Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library (FOL) are pleased to announce a reception for the current exhibit “Just Above Water: Florida Folk Art” on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library.
This unique traveling exhibit from the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee has been enhanced by the loan of several fascinating examples from members of the Fernandina Beach community. Loans of art work, baskets, dolls and quilts are on display from the personal collections of Susan and Louis Goldman, Marsha Dean Phelts, Jody and Doug Mackle, Laura Robinson, Peggy Bulger, Pam Wise and Dana Mowrer.
While all the displayed pieces of Florida folk art are interesting and unique, a large painting by Purvis Young and two John Gibson Highwayman paintings are of special note.
The reception will allow for social distancing and refreshments will be served. The FOL encourages community members to discover Florida folk art, meet artists, community art collectors, and members of the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library.
The reception is free and open to the public.
“Just Above Water: Florida Folk Art” is on display at the Fernandina Beach Branch Library, 25 N 4th Street, through October 30, 2021. In addition to the reception, the exhibit is open to the public for viewing on Saturdays from 10:00 am-5:00 pm and Wednesdays from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm.
